50th Anniversary Celebration

CUSD’s 50th Anniversary party is a rousing success!

The end of Clovis Unified’s 50th school year (1960-61 to 2010-11) came to a roaring close with a gala celebration attended by nearly 700 guests the evening of June 11 at P-R Farms in Clovis. The event, featuring the sounds and styles of the past 50 years, was the culmination of a yearlong celebration of the district’s silver anniversary.

Hosted by Clovis Unified and the Foundation for Clovis Schools, the “Parade of Decades” party featured a walk down the district’s museum-style Memory Lane full of unique memorabilia from every school, dancing to the music of live band Run 4 Cover, and a food fair with samplings from 19 local restaurants and caterers.

Contests rounded out the fun with a centerpiece contest full of creative and elaborate entries, with Jefferson Elementary placing 1st, Dry Creek Elementary placing 2nd, and Pinedale Elementary placing 3rd. “Dress your decade” gave guests the opportunity to wear their favorite attire from the past five decades for a chance at a $100 prize.

Party guests also were able to purchase copies of CUSD’s new book profiling the district, “50 Unified Years: Building a Tradition of Excellence in Clovis Unified Before, During and After Unfiication.” Copies of the book are still available  for $20 and can be purchased by calling (559) 327-9094.

Proceeds from the event benefit the Foundation for Clovis Schools.
